Things to Consider for Your French Riviera Proposal
What Time Of Year to Propose in The French Riviera
The very first thing you will need to decide is what time of year you would like to visit. The French Riviera has pretty distinct seasons that can affect your proposal. Here is what to expect throughout the year:
Winter: From December to February, the weather in the French Riviera remains pretty mild, with daytime temperatures remaining around 50-57 degrees Fahrenheit. While you might have to deal with some rain here and there, it remains pretty sunny and crisp. There are fewer tourists, which makes it better for intimate visits. Just be warned that Carnival in Nice happens in February. I would try to avoid this season if you would prefer a bit of privacy once it’s time to pop the question!
Spring: From March through May, the Riviera is positively gorgeous. The temperatures move toward highs in the 70s, and the flowers start to show off! Cruise season will start around April, bringing in visitors from all across the globe, so you will see larger crowds around this time.
Summer: While the Riviera can get hot during this season, it’s a bit more bearable than other Mediterranean hubs, and the highs seldom climb over 95 degrees. The warm weather and the nightlife bring in tons of tourism, with July and August being considered the high season. If you do plan to couple your trip to the Riviera with a stop in Provence, I would recommend heading to the lavender fields around June for the best views!
Autumn: I positively adore this season. From September through November, the hot temperatures begin to disappear, and the crowds go with them. It’s a little quieter, making it ideal for a private proposal! This is the best time to tour the vineyards and other historic sites if you are the type of couple who loves exploring.
The Best Time Of Day
Once you have your favorite French Riviera season, it’s time to figure out when you want to have your proposal. If you plan to hire a photographer (which I highly recommend!), you are going to want to keep the lighting in mind. Mid-morning and late evening are always going to give you the best lighting, while mid-day’s light is far harsher. If you want flattering portraits, I would probably avoid the afternoon. Another thing to consider is how intimate you would like your proposal to be. If you want to avoid a lot of the crowds, I would recommend planning this earlier in the morning. As the day goes on, more tourists will start to leave their hotels, making their way into the background. If you do prefer a sunset proposal but want to keep things more intimate, I would recommend avoiding the high season altogether.
A Backup Plan for Weather
In general, the French Riviera doesn’t get as much rain as a lot of the other destinations in France. It stays sunny here 300 days out of the year, giving you gorgeous weather for nearly every occasion. Still, I always recommend creating a backup plan in case it rains. There are a few things you can do for this:
1) Pick an indoor location or two where you can go if it looks like it’s going to rain on your big moment. We have tons of amazing chateaus and historic sites you can reserve as a backup.
2) Plan your proposal early in your trip. Once you get here, you can always push your proposal back as needed so you can get your ideal forecast. Plus, the earlier you pop the question, the less you have to deal with nerves. You are going to feel so much more relaxed afterward, so you can fully enjoy your trip!

Gorgeous Spots for Your Proposal in The French Riviera
Lastly, it’s time to find the spot where this moment can take place. Here are a few of my favorites:
Colline du Chateau: Located in Nice, this spot gives you all of those breathtaking views you’ve come to think of when you picture this area. The balcony overlooking Port Lympia offers a great mix of colorful boats and natural beauty.
Eze Village: If you want a luxurious stay, Chateau Eza is your spot! This five-star hotel gives you panoramic terraces as well as historic stone alleyways that feel as though they come straight from a storybook.
Jardin Exotique: Few places give you views quite like this location. You are going to have Saint-Cap-Ferrat, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Cap d’Ail, and Monaco all showing off in the background.
Eze-Sur-Mer: If you want to get right along the water’s edge, you are going to love this destination. You can share a moment on the pebble beach as the water crashes near your feet.
Menton: This is a colorful town with orange and pink buildings just behind the water. I recommend using the beach for your proposal here.
Fort de la Revere: This one tends to be a bit more private, making it a great spot no matter the time of year. With this option, you will have the village of Eze right beneath you.
Out on the water: If you really want something intimate and unique, consider renting a yacht! That way, you can get out over the water while getting the whole of the Riviera as your background.
